My latest at home studio project is attempting to capture the surface of a nearby pond. It is a place we would spend many weekends visiting as it is right next to the little league fields in town. That means every Saturday and Sunday for a couple of months in the fall and probably this coming spring too!
The trouble with any body of water is that it is always moving. How do you capture a moving image on canvas? Probably there is a good course on this subject but lacking the luxury of that kind of time I move on to attempt it myself.
This painting has probably been the most creative one I have ever done. Normally I am trying to make a perfect copy of something nature has created. With the water project I've let that go. It has been a good experiment for me and the outcome is surprising. It isn't finished yet but I am happy sofar and that is enough to keep me coming back for more.
